Chick & duck hatching kit FAQ.
Everything you need to know before you book, while your eggs are incubating, and when your Hatchables rental comes to an end.
What’s included in the kit?
Every Hatchables rental is designed to include the essentials for the full experience. Standard kits include 8 fertilized eggs, an incubator, heat source, brooder/cage setup, hygrometer, candling light, starter feed, bedding, food and water containers, instructions and a hatch calendar.
Educator kits include the same core equipment plus educational materials and downloadable worksheets for classroom learning.
How long does the hatching process take for chicks and ducks?
Chicken eggs typically hatch at about 21 days. Duck eggs typically hatch at about 28 days. Small differences can happen naturally, so hatchlings may arrive a little earlier or later.
Do I need to turn the eggs?
No manual turning is normally required with the Hatchables setup because the incubator includes automatic turning. For chicken eggs, turning stops for lockdown around Day 18. For duck eggs, turning stops around Day 25.
How long is the rental period for chick and duck hatching kits?
Chick hatching rentals are 31 days. Duck hatching rentals are 38 days. This gives you time for incubation, hatch day and several days to enjoy and care for the hatchlings before return.
Where do the chicks and ducklings go after the rental?
At the end of the rental, the hatchlings are returned to Hatchables or one of our trusted farm partners, where they continue to grow with appropriate food, water, space and long-term care. Hatchables maintains an egg-production-only policy for returned chicks.
Is support available if we encounter problems during the hatching process?
Yes. Hatchables provides support throughout your experience by phone, email and messaging. If something does not look right with your incubator, eggs or hatchlings, contact us and we’ll help you troubleshoot it.
How much space do I need?
You do not need a large room. Choose a stable indoor location for the incubator away from direct sunlight, drafts and major temperature swings. You’ll also need enough nearby space for the brooder/cage once the chicks or ducklings hatch.
How do I book an Educator Hatching Kit?
Use the regular Hatchables booking flow and choose your pickup location or eligible delivery option, start date, species and appointment time. When you reach the kit step, choose the matching Educator Chick Hatching Kit or Educator Duck Hatching Kit.
Where can I pick up and return a Hatchables kit?
Hatchables currently offers appointment-based pickup and return locations in Vaughan/Woodbridge, Schomberg, Harley/County of Brant and Welland/Niagara. Choose your location during booking to see available dates and times.
Do you offer delivery?
Local delivery is available from the Vaughan location to eligible addresses. Enter your address during booking to confirm availability. Any applicable delivery charge is shown through Shopify checkout.
When are chick and duck kits available?
Chick kits are available throughout the year. Duck kits are seasonal and are offered from April 1 through September 30.
